Isn’t it just the coolest thing in the world? Not some hopped up 4x4 Dakar truck, but a lightly modified road-going saloon or sports car going where it was never designed to go. Anyone have any pics? Loads here:)

FYI - Im 100% with you. I love the idea of doing a lot with a little. I still dream of kitting out a 1st gen rav4 for some serious off road fun.

I love this, too! I tend to do it in my own car when I have the chance. Also the reason I love the Top Gear specials where they use cars that were never designed to do anything remotely like what they put then through.

Best I've got so far. Taking my miata camping is relatively unorthodox.

That isn’t a rollover cage on the Silver Shadow either, that’s the re-routed exhaust :)

Nearly, it’s a Leyland P76 :)
Leyland Australia decided it wanted a car to compete with the big Fords, Holdens and Chryslers so it developed it’s own full-size car on a shoestring budget which actually turned out to be pretty damn good. 4.4l all-alloy Rover V8 or a 2.6l straight 6 (can’t remember which one, e-series ohc maybe?).
Unfortunately it debuted just before the oil crisis and right when the troubles in BL back in the UK were at their greatest so it was only on sale for a couple of years, and they didn’t sell many.
Yet another ‘what-if’ in the great sea of ‘what-ifs’ from British Leyland...

Hah :) brilliant. A rolls is probably the most perfect unsuitable car to do this with.
Citroen-licenced hydropneumatic suspension and an unkillable aircraft-bred 6.25l v8 :)
Oh, and air con...

Dude perfect!
I’ve always thought how damn cool it would be to take an e-type to a safari classic rally.
An xj is the next best thing!

That’s perfect!
Ive got some pics of a chap doing a cross-africa tour in a polski-fiat 126p which is similarly excellent, but my hard-drive decided to shit the bed :S

Very cool! Those old Tractions were very comfortable and reliable for their time! :)
